Titans 72 – Institute 81
The battle for first place in the South American League started as a close match in its first minutes. But at the end of the first quarter, the Colombian team managed to distance itself by five points from its rival. With the great performance of Jonathan Rodríguez (17 points, 6 rebounds), the Titanes led by one point. Tomás Diaz’s men went 12 points clear in the second period before retiring at half-time, up by ten.
But the second half was another story, starting in the third quarter, Glory began its comeback. The hand of Nathan Hoover (22 points, 3 rebounds), the MVP of the tournament, was the key for the Córdoba team to lead the score. Instituto scored 30 points during this period and went on to win 13. An advantage that was discounted, but never surpassed by Barranquilla. With Bryan Jefferson’s excellence (23 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block) in his work, Instituto screamed champion. With a victory of nine units difference, Lucas Victoriano’s team was crowned in Montevideo.
They became the thirteenth Argentine team to take first place in the South American League. They only competed in the competition twice. They were the first to reach the final and in the best-of-three Playoff series against SESI Franca, they got the silver medal. And in their current participation, they achieved the highest goal, first place and also took the undefeated title from Titanes de Barranquilla.
