Ukraine dramatically lost to Spain in World Cup qualifiers
Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Ainars Bagatskis commented on the defeat of the national team by Spain (76:77) in a meeting selection for the 2023 World Cup.
“Before the match, I told the players that for me, as a coach, this is an easy game. After all, I didn’t need to look for some additional words of motivation for the guys. In the last two days I saw in training how the players were in contact with each other, how aggressively, but at the same time positively played.
“Before the game, I said that the most important thing for us is to control emotions not for 3-4 minutes, but for 40 minutes. The Spaniards are very experienced and know how to take advantage of such moments. I can’t say that they played better basketball, but they played with a little more passion. Especially at the end of the game, when we needed to use our situations in attack, to play more confidently and smarter in defense.
“Spain won by one point, but I’m proud of the guys and don’t want us to lose our heads. Now a short rest and then we will see what happens next.
