Platense came back and fought to the top

El Calamar hosts Independiente de Oliva at the Ciudad de Vicente López Microstadium for the National League. Platense overcame a 20-point difference in the second half of the match and maintained its momentum at home, where it has yet to fall. Its I loses streak of three straight wins.

Platense remains unbeaten at home

El Calamar started the match in the wrong way, a deficiency that those from Córdoba knew how to take advantage of. They are superior with their mid-range shot and pressing defenses which caused defeats for Cholo Vázquez’s team. Salvador Giletto (12 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists) was the star in the distance that the visit took the brown team. At the beginning of the second quarter, Independiente continued to pull away and broke the 20-point barrier. González’s men retired at half-time 12 up.

Gradually, the effectiveness of the visit decreased, as Vicente López’s team began to grow. Matthew McCarthy (17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist) fired the nets and kept the home team in the game. Platense, with great effort, came back in the last stage. The man responsible for the tie was Facundo Vázquez (22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). With a free throw he tied the score at 74 and the men led by his father won it with a triple that made them break the 80-point barrier. El Calamar won by five units difference.

What’s next for you two?

Independiente will return to Gigante de la Ruta 9 to host Ferro Carril Oeste, both coming into the match after painful defeats. The I for losing a game where they had a big advantage and Oé for losing to the Institute by more than 20 units. Both will be looking to bounce back and hence this will be an entertaining matchup. Platense will stay at home and host Obras Sanitarias in what will be the final game of 2023. Both are at the top of the table. El Calamar has already passed the Rockeros, they are in third place and both want to qualify for the postseason, without going through reclassification.
