The Latvian basketball player criticized the IOC’s decision and believes that sport cannot be outside of politics.
Russians and Belarusians have no place in the Olympics, and all civilized countries should refuse to participate in the 2024 Games if representatives of the aggressor countries are really allowed there.
That’s what the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in 3×3 basketball, Nauris Miezis, said. In an interview, the Latvian athlete openly expressed his anger at the decision of the IOC, which previously allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in competitions under a neutral flag.
Nauris is ready to refuse to participate in the upcoming Olympics if this decision is not reconsidered.
“My position is that I really do not support it, if this is the final decision, I will definitely be the athlete who will not participate in the Olympic Games.
I don’t like it when athletes get involved in political issues like this, but this time we have to speak up and somehow we can help. The IOC’s decision, in my opinion, is wrong and we, as athletes, can do better,” said Miezis.
