Cholo Vázquez leaves his feelings about Platense’s present, the National League and its growth.
Alejandro “Cholo” Vazquez, coach of Platense, stopped by the microphone of 3×3 Radio in the morning of UCU Play. The conversation was wide-ranging and covered topics such as the current state of his team, the level of competition, the FIBAwindows experience and its goals, among others.
Platense is having a great time in the National League, finding itself in third position with a 10-3 record. Regarding this, Cholo expressed that “I never thought at the beginning of this league, that at this point we could be here. We are happy, we take responsibility, we know we can. Although we have our feet on the ground because we know that the league, when the regular season ends, you are put where you need to be.”.
About the team itself, he said “I like how the team plays, I think it represents the identity of the club. The players quickly grasped the idea and bought into it and they executed it well”. Here he added a comment about the group, which “He’s great to get along with and that’s hard to find. Most of the players are pro team, they have the ability to do everything for the team to win”.
About the National League
Vázquez also commented on the level of national competition, which he believes in “The level is better than last year, because there are better teams”. In turn, he referred to the referees, “I think Argentine arbitration is the best” mentioned. Then he added: “I know I’m a tough coach on the field, but I feel sometimes that not everyone is measured by the same yardstick. Argentina’s arbitration is generally good, but there are times when it is not very good”.
The windows experience
El Cholo was part of the Dominican Republic coaching staff the day the team beat Argentina in Mar del Plata, knocking them out of the World Cup. In this regard, the Platense coach admitted that “I don’t like going to windows. I had to be in Mar del Plata on Friday and I didn’t go. Néstor called me many times and I only answered him on Sunday morning and I went because he asked me. I was there for a while and on the bench I had to make that team win. On the one hand I have to be happy because I’m with him, but on the other hand I want to throw myself out the window. These are the moments to live for”.
Your ambitions
Finally, Vázquez addressed the question of the possibility of directing somewhere other than Calamar. “I want to direct somewhere else. I am clear that I will not go anywhere without my family, it is very difficult for me without my son and my wife. To me that’s more important than directing anything, because at the end of the road it’s all you have left. If I have to go, I will go, but with the support of my family”Cholo concluded.
