Instituto beat Argentino on the road to close out the year

La Gloria won against El Turco in a close, but unattractive match.

The Instituto achieved victory in El Fortín de Las Morochas, after defeating Argentino 60 to 56. The match was tight and low-scoring, with a rather heated atmosphere, including the protagonists and fans, in the second half.

La Gloria knew how to be better throughout the first half, managing to have a more fluid game and thus build an advantage heading into the long break. However, upon returning to the field of play the drought was very severe, converting only 6 points in the third period. The Turk took advantage of this weak passage of his rival to shorten the gap, although he also could not find a clear offensive to dominate the game.

The final quarter continued along the lines of the first and the scoring continued to be very low, with few field goal conversions, and none in the final four minutes of play. Instituto repeatedly went to the line and did not know how to capitalize on that advantage (16/26 TL), which is why Argentino stayed alive until the last moment, leading at the very least with two frees from Cangelosi. With the game tied, Córdoba’s team got the ball with just one possession left and Travon Payton made the mistake of being fouled. Hoover converted both shots and then, Payton himself failed to solve the offense for Junín’s team. In the end, Cosolito sealed the victory, converting two free throws.

The numbers are highlights

In the winning team, Javier Saiz was the most outstanding, with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Fedrico Elias followed him on the scoring path, with 10 points. Among the locals, Travon Payton was the leading scorer, with 15 points. One who did a great job was Jonatan Slider, who scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

With this result, the Institute has accumulated its fourth straight victory and is in fifth place in the table. El Turco, for its part, added another victory to reach a record of 2-12 and remains in last place.
