Head of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB) Andrei Kirilenko told that he was grateful to everyone involved in his inclusion in the list of nominees for the James Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Kirilenko played in the NBA for 13 seasons, and with the Russian national team he became European champion in 2007 and bronze medalist at EuroBasket 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. On Friday, it became known that he and prominent Soviet coach Vladimir Kondrashin were on the list of nominees for inclusion in the James Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024.
“I only found out last night when I received a text message from David Blatt, also nominated. It’s very nice when your work is recognized after your career ends. Many moments in my basketball career have been really cool, both in the NBA and as a member of the national team. Thank you for this attention. And of course, I have a huge thank you to all the fans who have supported me throughout my career. “I am also very happy for David Blatt, with whom I spent five years in the main team of the country, and, of course, for Vladimir Petrovich Kondrashin, with whom I had the chance to work at the beginning of my career,” Kirilenko told .
The 2024 finalists will be announced on February 16 during the NBA All-Star Game.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was founded in 1959. The first non-American to be included in the honorary player list was the leader of the USSR national team at the 1972 Golden Olympics, Sergei Belov.
