President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB) Andrei Kirilenko entered the list of nominees for induction into the James Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024, the press service of the RFB reports.
Kirilenko played in the NBA for 13 seasons, and with the Russian national team he became European champion in 2007 and bronze medalist at EuroBasket 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
This list also includes the eminent Soviet coach Vladimir Kondrashin, under whose leadership the USSR men’s team won Olympic gold for the first time in 1972 in Munich and also became world and European champions.
The list of international nominees included former Russian national team coach David Blatt and Serbian coach Dusan Ivkovic, who worked with CSKA Moscow.
The 2024 finalists will be announced on February 16 during the NBA All-Star Game.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was founded in 1959. The first non-American to be included in the honorary player list was the leader of the USSR national team at the 1972 Golden Olympics, Sergei Belov.
