“I wish no one knew me”

During an interview with Denver Nuggets teammate Michael Porter Jr., Nikola Jokic reveals how he views fame and future retirement

This last Thursday, 28th, the pivot Nikola Jokic was invited to participate in the “Curious Mike” podcast, hosted by his teammate at Denver Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr., and talked about a lot of things. One of the lines that caught the attention of internet users was when the Serbian spoke about how he views the fame that basketball brought him and what he hopes his retirement from the sport will be like.

“Being famous, some people like it, some people don’t. When I finish my career, I would really like no one to know me. I would like my daughter, or my children, in the future… to remember me as a father. I think this will be my life goal.”said Joker, who has never hidden how much he dislikes the attention that basketball has brought him.

“I really don’t like this life, because at the end of the day, we’re just basketball players. We are only good at what we do. But the press is something that is all around us and, of course, we get paid because of it, because of our popularity.”, commented Jokic. The Serb also took aim at fans’ popularity and harassment, something he particularly condemns, as people “take out your cell phone and try to record it in public”. “I think that is, I would say, rude. It’s not that I’m there showing off. I am just who I am”concluded the pivot.

Experiencing another of his great seasons in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets center is looking to win his third league MVP award, accumulating averages of 26.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists, making the franchise of Colorado be a great contender for a second championship in the playoffs.
