Heat coach signs biggest contract in NBA history

Erik Spoelstra signs multimillion-dollar agreement for eight years, the largest in total value in the history of the basketball league

Erik Spoelstraof Miami Heat, signed a million-dollar contract with the NBA franchise. The two-time league champion coach will pocket US$120 million (around R$600 million) in the eight-year contract. The value represents US$15 million (around R$75 million) each season.

Thus, Spoelstra will be the second highest paid coach per year in the major basketball league. He’s just after Gregg Popovichof San Antonio Spurs, which is at the top of the list, with US$19 million (R$95 million) annually, but with a shorter contract. However, the Heat commander’s bond is the largest in total value in NBA history.

Spoelstra took charge of Miami in 2008 and led the team to titles in 2012 and 2013, with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade It is Chris Bosh in the starry cast. He competed in four other Finals, the last being in the last edition, when he ended up defeated by Denver Nuggets.

Erik Spoelstra has 1,231 NBA regular season games, with 725 wins and 506 losses. He is in the Top 20 most successful coaches in league history.
