The Los Angeles Clippers have extended the contract of American forward Kawhi Leonard, according to the club’s official National Basketball Association (NBA) website.
Terms of the new agreement were not disclosed. Lenard has been with the Clippers since 2019. In 2021, the basketball player signed a 4-year contract worth $176.3 million and is expected to earn $48.8 million in the 2024/25 season.
“We are very excited to continue our relationship with Kawhi.” He is an elite player, a great teammate and a tireless worker who knows how to win and makes it his top priority. Our club has grown since his arrival. We are fortunate that Kawhi decided to join the Clippers five years ago and we are excited to continue our journey together,” said Lawrence Frank, Clippers President of Basketball Operations.
This season, the 32-year-old American played 32 regular season games for the Clippers, averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Leonard was drafted 15th overall by Indiana in 2011. He is a two-time NBA champion with San Antonio (2014) and Toronto (2019), a two-time Finals MVP, a five-time NBA All-Star and two NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
