Forward Trey Tompkins signed a contract with “Zenith” reports the press service of the St. Petersburg basketball team.
The agreement with the American is for one year. In 2014, Tompkins played for Nizhny Novgorod.
“I am very happy that after so many years I can finally play for Javier Pascual and not against him. I know he is an unrivaled master, so I am ready to learn from him and win with my new team. I can’t wait to come to Russia – the last time I met a lot of amazing people here, I expect this time to be the same, – said Tompkins.
Zenit head coach Pascual noted that the basketball player knows the VTB United League well.
– Tompkins already knows Russia – in 2014 he played in Nizhny Novgorod. Then he settled on the banks of the Volga as a player trying to revive his career. Trey was selected 37th overall in the NBA Draft three years earlier, but after a year in the league he suffered a serious injury from which he recovered for two seasons. The Los Angeles Clippers did not keep him in the roster, and Tompkins went to the Lower after a two-year hiatus.
As a result, he showed himself so well in both the VTB United League and the Euroleague that the following summer Real Madrid offered Tompkins a contract. At first it was a one-year deal, but the American spent seven years at Madrid. During that time, he managed to win the Euroleague, win the Spanish Championship four times, win the Copa del Rey three times and the Spanish Super Cup twice, the coach added.
