Unión de Formosa defeated Unión de Santa Fe 81 to 64 in their first match of the year. The locals had an important rivalry at the bottom of the table and a game ahead of the Santa Fe team.

The match was point to point from the start, with no clear advantages for either team. In the third quarter, those from Formosa achieved a small advantage, but the visit was closer with a 2-6 run to close the first half 41-36.

Coming back from the break, Unión managed to tie the game at 46. However, Ginobili’s men took the lead and, thanks to Alonso’s leadership and effectiveness from the perimeter, they started to put some distance on the scoreboard. The Union extended its good momentum into the final quarter, where it mounted a stout defense that allowed just 12 points to its rival. In this way, the locals sealed the final 81-64.

On the winning team, five players finished with double digits in scoring. The top scorer was Antown Lillard, who replaced Matías Eidintas, with 14 points. Marcos Saglietti followed with 13 points, while Guerra and Fernández scored 12 each. Gonzalo Alonso completed the scoring quintet with 10 points.

On the part of the Union, the most prominent are the foreigners. Justin Martin was the leading scorer, with 14 points, while Matthew Butler joined him with 11 points.

The Formosa team returned to victory after two consecutive losses and, with a record of 4-10, is in seventeenth place. Tatengue, who just beat Boca in extra time, is in second-to-last place, with a 3-12 record.
