Russian basketball player from Chinese “Shanxi” Alexey Shved explained what it is difficult for him to adapt to in China, and also named an exotic dish that he had the chance to try.
A former basketball player for several NBA clubs, as well as CSKA and Khimki, Shved moved to Shanxi in October, playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
— The most unusual thing is that we all live in a hotel. Everywhere I played before, I lived in a rented apartment. And here we live in a hotel, but I’m not complaining. The hotel is five stars, I have two rooms. The family lives with me. Now my parents came to visit me. That is, in principle, everything suits me, but in an apartment, of course, it is more convenient.
—Have you thought about renting an apartment?
-And the season is short here. We’ve already played almost half of it. January, February and March remain. The last game of the regular season, I think, will be in early April. Additionally, living in a hotel has its advantages. All the players are actually staying in a hotel. Chinese in one, foreigners in the other. A driver picks us up and takes us to training and back.
— What is your relationship with Chinese cuisine? Not everyone likes it…
“It’s strange that now I like everything.” Because the last time I came, the food didn’t seem good to me at all. Maybe my tastes have changed. They eat a lot of meat, fish, rice and noodles. Shanxi is generally considered to be the province where the best noodles are made. So I have no problem: I like everything, I eat everything.
— Did you manage to try something exotic?
“I remember eating some kind of pig innards.” Either the annex or something like that. Usually they completely eat the pig here, there is nothing left. The only thing was that I somehow got out into town and got to try a crocodile. But I didn’t take any risks before the match,” Shved said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
