“There have been no offers from the United League. It’s time to do something new” – The Swede talks about his move to a Chinese club

Russian basketball player Alexey Shved explained why he decided to try his hand at the Chinese championship.

In the summer of 2023, Shved left Moscow CSKA and at the end of October, he moved to Shanxi, playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). In addition to CSKA, Khimki and Dynamo Moscow, Shved spent several years in NBA clubs in Minnesota, Philadelphia, Houston and New York.

— Did you immediately decide to continue your career abroad, or were you ready to stay in the United League?

— I would consider all options. But there were no offers from the United League. They wrote that no one could fulfill my contract, no one had that kind of money. But we didn’t talk about money, because there were simply no offers. So I was ready to stay in the United League.

— Your agent Obrad Fimich said that at first he was even upset that you chose China. Was he trying to convince you?

– Not that he convinced me. He said there were offers from Spain, but I immediately said I wanted to try my hand in China. So I played in the Euroleague, in North America and in Russia. Now it’s time to move on to something new,” Shved said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
