On Thursday, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) announced that it had suspended Kurbanov for three months for cocaine use. The disqualification of the 37-year-old striker begins on October 20, 2023 and expires on January 19, 2024. In October, the CSKA captain “for personal reasons” decided to suspend his sports career.

During the period of temporary suspension, CSKA player Nikita Kurbanov did not participate in the championship matches of the VTB United League. The disqualification period, including temporary suspension, expires on January 19. From January 20, Kurbanov will be able to participate in the League championship matches, the league said in a statement.

The message states that the VTB United League complies with the All-Russian anti-doping rules and the WADA Code.

Kurbanov, 37, is an 11-time Russian champion and 7-time winner of the VTB United League. As a member of CSKA, the basketball player won the Euroleague three times and holds the club record for the number of matches played.
