Honored Basketball Coach of Russia Sergei Elevitch told that the deceased Georgy Yartsev I remember him as a sociable and positive person.
– We often spoke with Georgy Alexandrovich, often met at the Olympic Committee. He was very sociable and talkative. He always came. He liked to joke a lot. The impressions are very positive. He was an extraordinary person. Both as a player and as a coach. Of course, he was remembered for his brilliant and successful work at Spartak. I think he did a good job at Dynamo. Georgy Alexandrovich had an excellent sports biography. He was a great player and he became a great coach. It is a very good example for young people. It’s a shame when people like that leave. But that’s life. Kozlov was generally very young – only 29 years old … Where to go? We all walk under God. Life, unfortunately, is fleeting, – said Elevich “”.
Yartsev’s death at the age of 75 became known on Friday.
As a footballer, Yartsev together with Spartak became the champion of the USSR in 1979. In the 1981 season he played for Lokomotiv, played 40 games and scored 12 goals. In the role of the coach of the “red-whites”, he won the gold medals of the Russian championship in 1996.
During his coaching career, Yartsev worked for Krasnaya Presnya, Spartak, Rotor, Dynamo, Torpedo and the Russian national team. The specialist was twice recognized as Coach of the Year by the RFU in 1996 and 2003.
