Kobe Bryant statue unveiled at Lakers home arena

Later, two more sculptures of the legendary basketball player will appear

The 19-foot (5.79 m) tall bronze sculpture depicts Kobe in his No. 8 uniform with his finger pointing to the sky. This is how Bryant walked out of a game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006 after scoring 81 points in the contest. The statue is surrounded by replicas of the five Larry O’Brien trophies for the winner of the final game of the NBA Finals.

Bryant’s family has chosen three projects to immortalize the basketball player. The second sculpture will depict Bryant wearing jersey number 24. The third will be with his daughter Gianna, who died with her father in a plane crash.

NBA legend Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. The 41-year-old basketball player was on board his private helicopter. Eight other people died along with Bryant, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria.

Kobe Bryant is a five-time NBA champion and two-time Finals MVP. The guard was elected to the NBA All-Star Game 18 times and was named to the top five at the end of the season 11 times.
