Two of the most important figures in the NBA could share a team at the end of the 23/24 season.
If we thought the NBA trade deadline was unattractive a few weeks ago, it’s because we missed out on one of the most important transfers the competition could have in years.. Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors tried to add LeBron James to the limit of changes in the best league in the world. For various reasons, the negotiations did not reach an agreement but, without a doubt, they stirred the hornet’s nest enough for fans, protagonists and journalists to ask themselves: Is it possible that these two stars will have the same jersey in the future?
Now, neither of the two franchises involved is at its best. They are direct rivals in the final places of the play. That is, if the regular season ends todaythey will face off in a head-to-head duel for a spot in the NBA postseason. Whoever loses the game will be left without a chance to fight for the title. But it’s clear that the possibility of combining Lebron and Steph significantly changes the picture. That may explain why the story about the impossible trap caused such a stir.
Adrian Wojnarowski and his colleague at ESPN, Ramona Shelburne, publicly announced the negotiations made by the franchises. “The Warriors are eager to present a package to Los Angeles, but neither the Lakers nor James want to explore a potential blockbuster. Even at age 39, James is still performing at an All-NBA level sparked the Warriors’ imagination about his ability to extend the window of the franchise’s flagging dynasty.“. Right now, this novel seems far from over. Wojnarowski said the team led by Stephen Curry will try to include the King again at some point in the 2024-25 season. James can become a free agent if he declines the player option for $51.4 million to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for another year.

Interestingly, the Warriors are not the only franchise that picked up the phone to talk to Rob Pelinka, General Manager of the Lakers. Daryl Morey, manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, contacted the two teams in search of another superstar to defend the colors of the Sixers. Not satisfied with the answer, he also consulted with the Phoenix Suns about Kevin Durant.
