The NBA continues to enjoy the top stars of the season, on the second day of All Star Weekend. We’re checking out Saturday’s winners.
The weekend continues in full swing in the NBA, with the highly anticipated All-Star game. There, the best players in the league compete to win individual and team prizes of the competition that brings them together year after year. On Saturday at All Star we had the skills challenge, the three-point tournament, the dunks and the challenge between Ionescu and Curry, looking for the best shooter.
For the third year in a row, the locals won. The members of “Team Pacers” (Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner) who won the beautiful trophy in the 2024 edition. Paolo Banchero (Magic), Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves), Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) were the first to be eliminated from this tournament. The mini tournament requires a tiebreaker round.
Triples Tournament:
Second consecutive All-Star weekend designation for Damian Lillard. The final round of this tournament also featured the participation of Karl Anthony Towns (2022 winner) and Trae Young. The bar was quite high in the first rounds, with some of the protagonists scoring 26 points in their shooting round. Left behind are Malik Beasley (Bucks), Jalen Brunson (Knicks), Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers), Lauri Markkanen (Jazz) and Donovan Mitchell (Cavaliers). In the final round of shooting, the Bucks player finished with 26 points, surpassing Towns’ 22 and Young’s 24. In this way, he joins Jason Kapono, Larry Bird, Craig Hodges, Mark Price and Peja Stojakovic as players who have won two consecutive titles in the competition.
The shooter challenge:
The eyes of the whole world are on the duel between two of the best shooters in the most important competition in the United States. After Sabrina Ionescu’s record in the WNBA All-Star Game, Steph did not hesitate to challenge the Liberty player in a head-to-head matchup this weekend. This odd round had a player with 26 points in his first outing. The Warriors player finished second, and finished with 29 points, taking the challenge and the championship belt. Will there be revenge in this year’s women’s event?
The Dunk Contest:
The finale of the night was the dunk contest. This competition needs an injection of energy after several years of low profile among the participants. And for many, it was a surprise that Mac McClung got the title, but the truth is that in 2023 he surprised the whole world with his jumping ability and talent to make the audience vibrate. The Osceola Magic player (affiliate of the Orlando franchise in the G-League) showed a real show in Indiana, with four dunks that only raised the bar. In his last outing he jumped over none other than Shaquille O’Neal, the historic 2.16 meter player. It earned a perfect score from the judges, allowing him to edge out Jaylen Brown, who in his last outing scored with his untrained hand, to try and take the title.
