It’s unclear what prompted the brawl, but league officials promised to look into it
Southland Conference Division One basketball game National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) between the Texas A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word student teams ended in a massive brawl.
The incident occurred immediately after the end of the match during the traditional handshake ceremony. It is unclear what exactly triggered the conflict, but most players were involved. Their colleagues, as well as coaches, tried to separate the fighters, but the active phase of the fight lasted more than a minute.
Following the incident, there were reports of a “girl in the crowd” being injured and blood on the face of one of the managers. However, no information was received about the hospitalization of the victims.
The teams subsequently issued a joint statement apologizing for the behavior of those involved in the clash. The Southland Conference also issued a communiqué in which it promised to take “appropriate disciplinary action”.
In the mentioned match, the Texas A&M-Commerce University team won with a score of 76:72. Both teams occupy places at the bottom of the Southland Conference table, having only three wins in the regular season.
