Young Minnesota Timberwolves star understands that he has not yet written his name in the NBA to earn comparisons with the eternal number 23
Earning comparisons with the greatest player of all time is a great thing, but it can become a curse. Unreal expectations are created for a young talent at the beginning of their career and can get in the way. The evolution of the great star of Anthony Edwards is recognized and increasingly compared with Michael Jordan. It’s an honor, of course, but the Minnesota Timberwolves admits he doesn’t like it.
“I don’t want to deny an honor like that, but I don’t want to be compared to someone of that size and stature. I didn’t do anything in the league of this man’s significance to begin with. However, I love that people have confidence in my potential. I can assure you that they are not wrong in believing me.”said Ant-Man, in an interview with “ESPN”.
Anthony Edwards is only 22 years old and in his fourth season in the league, but he has already been elected all-star twice. Even though it’s not easy, he’s far from being on par with number 23. Jordan’s most important achievements were six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, in addition to being MVP of all the finals. The young player believes that there are chances of starting a ‘persecution’ of the idol’s great achievements in 2024.
“I’m very confident that this is our year. If we are healthy, above all, we will be a problem in the playoffs. Minnesota’s biggest opponent is ourselves, just as I am my biggest opponent. I can turn our obstacle around, for example, if I ‘force’ too many shots and don’t involve my teammates, for example. We are the ones who can get in the way.”he commented.
But, the most interesting thing about the whole story is that, for Anthony Edwards, Michael Jordan is not the famous “GOAT”, but rather, Kevin Durant. “For me, Kevin is the greatest player in history. I was always a fan of his game while following the league as a kid. He is remarkable, as he was the first player of his size that I saw put the ball on the floor and create shots from the dribble. And that’s the type of player, in short, that I wanted to be.”he revealed.
