Scot Polard, former player of the best competition in the world, had to wait several weeks for a heart, but he finally underwent surgery and was able to save his life.
A few weeks ago the story of Scot Pollard went around the world. The former NBA player, who became the champion in 2008, was hospitalized in serious condition, waiting for a heart transplant. The former Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers and others suffered from a heart condition that caused his heart to beat at an almost uncontrollable rate. Medical professionals estimate that the organ makes 10,000 more contractions a day than the average person. An attempt was made to place a pacemaker, but was unsuccessful. The biggest complication is Pollard’s size. At 2.11m the organ he will receive will have to be bigger than most people.
Weeks passed, and the former player remained hospitalized awaiting news. His father, who also practiced the sport, died at the age of 54 from the same disease. In the event that there is no news of a donor, Pollard’s fate will be the same. No time to wait, but not much to do either. But the news came one day. The champion will be transferred. As the doctors explained, due to the size of the person who died, no one could receive the organ except him. On February 7, the operation was performed and 13 days later, he left the hospital with his new life.
“I didn’t realize how sick I was. When I woke up from surgery and feeling better I was like, ‘Wow, I was really sick.'” His wife stated that, beyond his NBA career, Pollard won the most important game of his life. During his career in the most important competition in the world, he defended the colors of the Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. He officially played 506 games, averaging 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists. In 2008 he lifted the trophy with the green team. After 11 seasons, he decided to retire.
