Former Seattle SuperSonics player talks about Durant’s return: “He…”

Kevin Durant could be returning to the city of Seattle, which would welcome an NBA team again, according to former player and franchise idol

Great idol of Seattle SuperSonics, Spencer Haywood hinted that there is a possibility of the franchise returning to the city and, with it, Kevin Durant. The 74-year-old former player revealed that he has conversations with the football star Phoenix Suns about the subject. It is worth remembering that the number 35 was selected in the Draft by the old team in the last year of its existence, before moving to the city of Oklahomawhen it turned Oklahoma City Thunder.

“Of course we all want the Sonics to return to the NBA. I would say this can and should happen soon. In fact, someone I recently spoke to about this was Kevin Durant. We talked about it at this year’s All-Star Game in Indianapolis.”stated Haywood, about the conversation he had with KD, during an interview with the journalist Jake Uittifrom “Hoops Hype”.

“I can’t really go into too much detail. There are some secret things going on, and after all, I was with your family there. It’s not the kind of thing you talk about, because it’s private. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw him in the franchise’s uniform when it returns. I was with his mom at the all-star game. Then you’ll know what could happen. I’m just saying”he completed.

Haywood made history wearing the SuperSonics shirt, joining the team in 1970/71, as the current MVP of the former TABwhich merged with the NBA a few years later. He was an All-Star from 1971/72 to 1974/75. Afterwards, he went to the New York Knicks and never again had the protagonism it had in Seattle.

It’s not the first time that Kevin Durant’s name has been linked to a return to the old franchise. In fact, the player himself has already given interviews reiterating his desire to help the Seattle SuperSonics return to the league. “We can’t talk about a new expansion because there is no confirmation about it, but that would be cool, without a doubt. In a perfect world, I would like to be part of the project or group that brings Seattle back. I hope, above all, to be part of something special. And they would be the ideal team to enter the NBA right now. They deserve it, passionate fans. I would love to stay a part of the league when I stop, in a role like this with the Sonics.”he commented, in an interview with “NBC Sports”.

“I would really like them to come back. In fact, I would love to manage the team and lead it when that happens. It would, above all, be a dream come true for me. I think it’s one of the few things that would keep me motivated to work after I retire. It would be like playing basketball again, so I love the idea.”assured Durant, in a conversation on his agent’s Board Room program, Rich Kleiman.
