Australian Ben Simmons, from the Brooklyn Nets, suffers another injury and will no longer take the court for the New York franchise this season
It’s sad when you see a talent end due to physical issues, which happened to countless players, like Penny Hardaway or Bob Hurley, between others. And, it appears that it is now happening again. The Australian’s career Ben Simmons at NBA will never be the same again. Even though he is only 27 years old, the chances of him becoming a star again or anything remotely close to that are almost zero.
The player can still play in the league, but his situation is increasingly chaotic. Outside of the current season, in which he only entered the court 15 times, Ben Simmons has been suffering a lot from the same physical problem since 2021, having been trying to play for three years and being prevented from doing so. However, the pain he has been feeling seems to be affecting other areas of his body. According to experts, it would be something like a reflex. The Australian’s problem is that tissue or bone can compress nerve fibers radiating through the lower back, legs or feet.
Simmons was experiencing severe pain in his knee, but after numerous evaluations, nothing serious was found. However, the discomfort was still there, being just a reflection of his back problem. The Australian may even undergo a new surgery, but the pain persisted after the first, carried out in 2022. However, the player’s agent states that he should only recover with rest and physiotherapy.
And that’s all the player has been doing in the last three years, in which he barely played, making just 57 appearances out of a possible 246. In other words, only 23.2% of the time. In 2024/25, he will enter the final year of his contract with Brooklyn Nets, who doesn’t know what to do with the player. Simmons simply doesn’t have the health to be in the NBA and his career is at risk. With only one more year of his contract left, he will need to make a big effort to return to a sequence of games where he can prove to be useful for a team.
But, his career is not completely over. The point guard still has a chance, however small it may be. Maybe on the Nets, as his $40.3 million is attractive on the market for the following offseason. This is because, from the moment your expiring date becomes available, some franchises may want to make room on their payroll. But this is only in case he doesn’t have a great chance of being a relevant athlete again.
