In an episode of his podcast, released this Wednesday, Shaquille O’Neal analyzed the Frenchman’s performance in the NBA
Shaquille O’Neal he stated this Wednesday, 13th, on his program “The Big Podcast with Shaq”, which considers Rudy Gobert an overrated defender. The former player also said that he would have the same numbers as the center of the Minnesota Timberwolves if he played at 42 years old.
“I never thought he was a great defender… See, the thing is, there aren’t many pivots who can defend him. Like, he doesn’t do what he does against ‘Joker’ (Nikola Jokic)… He’s 2.28m (actually, Gobert is 2.16m), so of course if you go for a layup he’s going to give it the stump. But defense for me is guarding a guy and not letting him do anything. Do you want to impress me? Limit ‘Joker’ to less than 15 points. All these blocks coming from the weak side, that’s cool, but it won’t work against guys like me and ‘Joker‘” said Diesel.

Gobert has been having a good season and helping the Wolves stay at the top of the Western Conference, averaging 13.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.1 blocks. Shaq also commented on the Frenchman’s astronomical salary, of around 205 million dollars for five years.
“If I were 42 [anos], I would be getting Rudy Gobert’s money. 12 points and eight rebounds? I could do this sh… right now… win $250 million with a 12 point average,” O’Neal stated.
