Basketball player “Brooklyn » Ben Simmons was out of action until the end of the season, reports the club’s press service.
“Simmons successfully underwent a microscopic partial discectomy to relieve a pinched nerve in his lower back,” the club said in a statement.
Discectomy is a surgical procedure on the spine that involves the partial or complete removal of an intervertebral disc.
Simmons is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp next season.
The 27-year-old Australian has played 15 games for the Nets this season, averaging 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists.
Simmons has played in 57 games with Brooklyn since being traded from Philadelphia during the 21-22 season. The club paid him 86 million under the current contract.
