Former head coach of CSKA Stanislav Eremin in an interview with , he recalled the difficulties of building the team after the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
Eremin became head coach of CSKA in 1992 and worked with the team until 2000. Every season, under the leadership of Eremin, the army team won the title of champion of Russia.
— How do you remember your years as a coach at CSKA?
— I really appreciate my years of work at CSKA, because in 1990, when the USSR began to completely collapse, the borders opened. Last year, CSKA won the national championship with a very good team, and then all the best players, including head coach Sergei Belov, left. My friend Ivan Edeshko was then appointed head coach, with whom we began to work together.
Perhaps after a year and a half, Ivan felt that with my activity I was crushing him from the position of the second coach, he himself came to me and said: “Stas, let you be the main one , and I will help you. .” I have never seen such examples in my life. I know he probably regretted it later, because he could have received the same laurels as me. But his action was not only friendly, but also masculine – I really appreciate it.
Which is typical at that time: when everyone left, we recruited players from those who were lying around. CSKA remained a club with a name, but the privileged conditions that existed before have disappeared. They recruited people with bad characteristics, drunks, losers in life, everything bad. The staff was very difficult to manage, there were crimes that did not fit into the normal professional framework. There was drunkenness, the players did not come to training for several days, but they had to be made into a future team.
I was lucky that as a coach of the country’s youth team, I had the opportunity to “feel” with my own hands the best players of this age: Kudelin, Yudin, Panov. I invited them to CSKA, they trusted me. Without them, my career would also have turned out differently, I am very grateful to fate that I had the opportunity to work with such players,” Eremin said in an interview with .
