Historic Washington Wizards player made harsh criticisms against the Boston franchise; Former NBA player said the Celts had become “irrelevant”
Gilbert Arenasformer NBA player, said on his program “Gil’s Arena”, in the episode this Wednesday, 20, which considered the Boston Celtics “irrelevant”. The presenter made the comment rebutting a line from the franchise’s idol, Paul Pierce.
“95% of the titles were won before Paul Pierce was even born. I don’t even know if anyone from here was alive to remember when they won those titles back there. For the past 30 years, Boston has been irrelevant in basketball history. Their history was built at the beginning of time, because they had great players and were dominant”, stated Arenas.

Although the Celtics won their last title in 2008, they remain the greatest champions in the league’s history, along with the Los Angeles Lakers. Both franchises have 17 trophies, with the Celts having their greatest glories between the 1950s and 1980s.
“In the last 30 years of basketball, where has Boston been? It has had one title in the last 30 years. They carry this shit on their chest… no one remembers them”, said the former player.
Even with the harshness of Gilbert’s speech, Boston continues to seek to return to the franchise’s golden days. The current generation of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Co. is the greatest hope of winning the 18th championship in a long time.
