Brazilian player sets new record for assists in Liga ACB, the second highest in the sport, ending Pablo Laso’s 32-year reign
This past Sunday, 24th, the Brazilian player Marcelinho Huertasshipowner of Lenovo Tenerifereached the historic mark of 2,897 assists, becoming the new record holder for ACB Leaguethe second largest in the world, behind only NBA. The previous brand belonged to Pablo Lasowho had 2,896 passes to the basket over 21 seasons playing in the competition.
Huertas reached the milestone during his team’s 93-92 victory over Gran Canaria. The 40-year-old Brazilian was four assists away before the matchup, finishing with 20 points, five assists and four rebounds. Marcelinho, who has been in Spain for 17 seasons, puts an end to Laso’s 32-year reign, which began in 1991/92, when he took the lead in the rankings. The Spaniard retired in 2003 and today coaches the Bayern Munchen.
