This Friday, the 12th, the excellent generation of players from France gets closer to winning another big basketball name in NBA. The pivot Alex Sarrpotential first choice, has officially declared for the Draft of 2024 of the North American league. The information was given by Malika Andrewsjournalist for “ESPN” U.S.

Close to turning 19 years old, Sarr could be the second Frenchman in history to be chosen in first place in the NBA Draft, and moreover consecutively, given that Victor Wembanyama was also chosen with the first pick in 2023. The center played the last season of NBLprofessional basketball championship of Australiafor the Perth Wildcatsaveraging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 17 minutes per game.

“I had a great year playing professional basketball in the NBL. I have grown a lot, both in the game and personally. I’m ready for the next step, so it was obvious to me that I should declare for the draft. I am grateful for the year I spent in the NBL with the Perth Wildcats.”, commented Sarr. A great defender, he is 2.16m tall and has shown versatility in protecting the rim and guarding players on the perimeter. One point that needs to improve, however, is his three-point shot, where he only has a 29.8% success rate, as well as his free throws, with 71.4%.

Sarr went to the USA in 2021, playing two seasons of Overtime Elite. On the international stage, he won medals in world Cup under-17 and under-19, with France. Close to being called up in the Draft, he doesn’t hide his excitement.

“It’s an exciting time for me to learn more about NBA basketball. I’ve been watching a lot of games, guys like (Nikola) Jokic, Giannis (Antetokounmpo) and Kevin Durant. But, I’ve been watching the entire NBA, to understand the game better. From what I’ve seen, I can fit in easily. There are a lot of marking changes in defense. You must be prepared to score from anywhere on the court. Tall players have to create plays, make the right passes and also create for themselves. These are things I can do. This summer, when I finally have time to work on my three-pointer, I’m going to take it to a new level.”he stated.
