Double Olympic basketball champion Britney Greiner whose trial is taking place in Khimki, told how she went through customs at the airport after arriving in Russia.
An American woman was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport, and a criminal case has been opened for drug trafficking. Greiner faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
– February 17 flew to Moscow. I left the plane, I went to the control, I affixed a stamp on my passport, passed the customs control zone. There I was sniffed out by a service dog. The customs officer told me to put things on the scanner. It seemed to me that at that time a lot of people worked at the airport.
The customs officer sniffed the cartridges, packed them up and sent them for examination. After that, they started giving various documents and asking them to sign. They brought in a woman, she said she was a translator, but she translated almost nothing, only short sentences: “surname”, “sign here”. No one explained the rights and what exactly I am signing. So I called my wife and my agent. When I missed the flight, they took me to the building next to the airport – apparently, customs, – the basketball player continued.
Greiner was accompanied by a detective and a customs officer. In another building, they started filling out paperwork. Britney asked to go to the bathroom, for an escort they brought a man in a protective uniform. The athlete then activated geolocation on her phone so that the agent and her family knew where she was.
The lawyer was allowed in a few hours later, but he was not allowed to meet Greiner that day, nor was the lawyer asked to inspect the luggage.
– I managed to meet with a lawyer only at 2-3 am the next day. We exchanged a few sentences in the hallway, after which I was questioned in the presence of a lawyer. Then they handcuffed me and took me away. At the same time they returned the luggage, I was able to transfer everything to the lawyer: a suitcase, a backpack and a bag,” Greiner said at trial.
Greiner, 31, has been playing for UMMC since 2015, winning two Olympics with Team USA (2016, 2020).
