Double Olympic basketball champion Britney Greiner whose trial is taking place in Khimki, told the meeting that she did not want to deliberately violate Russian law.
An American woman was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport, and a criminal case has been opened for drug trafficking. Greiner faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
— I had no intention of violating any law of the Russian Federation. I think I was in a hurry and hadn’t fully recovered yet, so I threw everything in a bag.
Greiner added that two cartridges of Timeless medical marijuana were seized from him.
“These cartridges in the photographs look exactly like the ones found back home in the United States. I know the drugs are banned in Russia, I still don’t understand how they ended up in the bag. I didn’t want to bring them,” concluded the athlete.
Greiner admitted that she enjoys her career very much and was not going to do drugs in Yekaterinburg.
– It’s my whole life. I devoted my time, my body to it. I am away from my family six months a year. The parents are no longer young, I appreciate the time spent with them. But I play even with injuries and nothing can make me disappoint the team. I had no intention of using cannabis in Yekaterinburg. It would let the team down,” the basketball player said.
Greiner, 31, has been playing for UMMC since 2015, winning two Olympics with Team USA (2016, 2020).
