Double Olympic basketball champion Britney Greiner whose trial is taking place in Khimki, said she was aware of the US authorities’ recommendation not to travel to Russia, but could not let down her club, Yekaterinburg UMMC .
An American woman was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport, and a criminal case has been opened for drug trafficking. Greiner faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
– I tried to get back into shape, but it was impossible to take more time for rehabilitation. The most important part of the season has started, the playoffs have started, the club has taken a good position. I couldn’t let the team down.
If I had taken another week off, I wouldn’t have been able to make the playoffs. For me it’s even worse. I knew that the American authorities did not recommend that the citizens of the country travel to Russia. But I couldn’t let the team down and nothing could change my decision to go back to Russia,” Greiner said.
Greiner, 31, has been playing for UMMC since 2015, winning two Olympics with Team USA (2016, 2020).
