Double Olympic champion Britney Greiner was not allowed to leave the cell at the next court hearing in Khimki.
The lawyer asked the judge for permission for a 31-year-old American woman who cannot stand up in a cage because of her size and who has neck pain. The judge denied the request, despite the athlete’s promise not to come out of the cage, allowing him to testify from a seated position.
Greiner was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to smuggle hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport. A criminal case has been opened for drug smuggling. She faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. On June 27, the Moscow Region Khimki Court extended Greiner’s detention until December 20.
The basketball player, who has been playing for UMMC Yekaterinburg since 2015, has twice won the Olympics as part of the US team (2016, 2020).
