American basketball player arrested in Russia Britney Griner landed on the cover of the new issue of Time magazine.
Greiner was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport, and a criminal case was opened for drug trafficking. Greiner, 31, now faces 5 to 10 years in prison.
The trial is ongoing, the next meeting is scheduled for August 2. Greiner is a player of the Yekaterinburg club UMMC (since 2015). She won the Olympics twice with the USA team (2016, 2020).
Earlier, US television channel CNN reported that US President Joe Biden had backed plans to swap Russian Viktor Bout for US Representatives Paul Whelan and Greiner. CNN cites a senior source in the Biden administration.
