This last Wednesday, the 22nd, the Minnesota Timberwolves ended up losing to Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference in full Target Centerin Minneapolis, by 108 to 105. During the press conference after the match, Chris Finchcoach of the home team, summarized the reason for his team’s defeat in just two words.
“No composure”said the veteran, according to the journalist Dave McMenamin, from the North American “ESPN”. The Mavs were losing by four points with 3:37 minutes remaining in the game, when they went on a 10-3 run to close out the duel and complete the comeback, taking advantage of their rivals’ five wastes in the last 12 minutes.
Chris Finch holds no punches when talking about his team not closing out the game: “Terrible offense down the stretch. Bad shots. Turnovers. Don’t compose.” #Timberwolvespic.twitter.com/oqeCwmC7v6

“We haven’t closed quarters very well, closed times very well in the last few games. That cost us a game in the Denver series. It certainly had an impact on tonight’s game as well. We have to be better in these decisive moments”, added Finch, pointing out the team’s difficulties in closing partials. Still in the last play of the match, with four points behind, Mike Conley was fouled while shooting from the three-point line, going to the free throw line, having a chance to tie, but missing one of his first two attempts. So he purposely got the last one wrong to try and solve the problem. The two squads will face each other again at Target Center this Friday, 24th, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time).
