NBA’s most decorated player Russell dies at 88

Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell has died aged 89.

Russell played for Boston from 1956 to 1969.

“With heavy hearts, we would like to pass on to all of Bill’s friends, fans and followers: Bill Russell, the most successful winner in American sports history, passed away peacefully today at the age of 88, his wife Jeannie had died on his side,” reads the post on Russell’s official Twitter account.

Russell is the most decorated player in NBA history. The basketball player won 11 league titles with the Celtics in his 13-year career, appeared in 12 All-Star Games and was named league MVP five times.
