The country’s basketball federation threatens athletes with suspension from matches for the national team.

French basketball players were banned from playing in the championships of Russia and Belarus until the end of the war in Ukraine. This decision was made by the country’s Basketball Federation.

According to the organization’s press service, athletes are threatened with suspension from matches for the French national teams, in case this rule is ignored.

All players and members of the national teams called to prepare for the competition must sign a statement according to which they will not cooperate with the Russian or Belarusian teams.

If these guidelines are not followed, players or staff will not be allowed to join the national teams.

Basketball players with contracts with clubs from aggressor countries have been disqualified. So, Tom Ertel, who recently signed an agreement with Zenit from St. Petersburg, was not included in the expanded application of the national team for EuroBasket.
