Olimpico stood up to La Banda’s Vicente Rosales and defeated Platense in the first match of their series in the quarterfinals. El Negro showed his superiority from the beginning of the match and did not allow Squid to play his game. The second point will be debated on Tuesday, June 11, again in Santiago del Estero.
Local elevation in La Banda
The fight on the soil of Santiago is local from end to end. El Negro quickly managed to take the lead with a good rhythm from the shot in the first half, which added to the tough and physical defense. The virtues shown by Esteban Gatti’s team left Platense low in scoring, whose outstanding player was his foreigner Quintrell Thomas (24 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal). But on the Olympic side is Nicolás Romano (20 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) whose play allowed the La Banda team to lead at halftime by 27 points.
Olimpico did a good job in perimeter defense and kept Vázquez and Flor to a few points. However, the lack of power in the painted area was noticed and the bandeños suffered from Thomas. El Negro reached a 31-point difference over Platense in the second half, and although those from Buenos Aires split that advantage, the game was broken and won by Gatti’s team before the end. The local team won the match by 17 points and on Tuesday will determine the second point of this series.
How does the series continue?
The series will continue on Tuesday, June 11 at Vicente Rosales de La Banda. Olimpico will try to reach the semi-final matchpoint with home field advantage. But they will face a Platense looking to change the face of the first match and draw 1-1 to get back to Vicente López.
