American basketball player Greiner, convicted in Russia, will perform at the Paris Olympics

Basketball player Brittney Greiner was included in the final bid of the American women’s team to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games, reports the press service of the American Basketball Federation.

In total, Team USA has 12 athletes in its bid. Diana Taurasi, 42, a five-time Olympic champion, will also perform at the Paris Games. Previously, she played in Russia for Dynamo Moscow, Sparta & K and UMMC Yekaterinburg.

“We have selected a team that we are confident will adequately represent the United States at the Paris Olympic Games. USA Basketball has unmatched depth, making the selection process difficult and competitive. These athletes’ dedication to USA Basketball is unparalleled, and I look forward to watching them compete against competitors from around the world in Paris,” said Jen Rizzotti, USA Basketball Women’s National Team President.

Greiner was arrested in February 2022 while attempting to illegally import hashish oil through Sheremetyevo Airport. On August 4, the Khimki City Court sentenced an American woman to 9 years in prison in a general regime colony for drug trafficking. In December 2022, the athlete was exchanged for businessman Viktor But, sentenced in the United States in 2012 to 25 years in prison on several charges.

Greiner, who played for UMMC for seven seasons, won two Olympics as a member of Team USA (2016, 2020).
