Kawhi Leonard is cut from the Paris Olympics; see why

Just over two weeks before the Olympic debut, the US basketball team announced the cut of Kawhi Leonard

This Wednesday, the 10th, the United States Basketball Federation announced an unexpected cut in the men’s team, focused on the dispute of the Paris Olympics. Kawhi Leonardstar of the Los Angeles Clippersbecame a last-minute absence and will not be part of the team that will fight for the gold medal.

The decision was made by the North American Federation, together with the Clippers, the franchise that Kawhi defends in NBA. Last season, the winger suffered a knee injury and, despite having spent some time resting and making progress, his recovery is not yet 100% complete.

“Kawhi had been preparing for the Olympics for the past few weeks and had been putting in a lot of hard work in Las Vegas. He was ready to compete. However, he respects that USA Basketball and the Clippers have determined that it is best for him to prepare for the upcoming season during the summer rather than participate in the Olympic Games in Paris.” the Federation stated in an official statement.

A new name should be announced soon to replace the winger in the star-studded squad. According to ‘GE’, Derrick WhiteNBA champion with the Boston Celticsis the favorite to take Kawhi’s place. The American debut in Paris is scheduled for July 28, in a duel against Serbia.
