The former athlete played professionally for 18 years and played for major European and American clubs, such as Baskonia, Valencia, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76s. He retired in 2017 and two years later began his career off the court as an assistant coach at Brooklyn Nets and then in Houston Rockets.
Splitter takes over French team after Finnish coach leaves Tuomas Iisalowho will be part of the technical committee of Memphis Grizzliesa team that finished 13th in the Western Conference and did not make the playoffs in the 2023-24 season. Tiago’s succession is seen as a challenge for the now coach, considering that the team has just won its first EuroCup in history (tournament in which the best teams that were not qualified for the EuroLeague participate). The Leaders Cup was also won by Paris, a cup played by French teams.
However, this will not be the first time that Tiago Splitter will play in the EuroLeague. At Baskonia, a team where he was an idol and whose jersey was retired, the former athlete was a finalist in the competition twice.
Tiago’s next game as an assistant will be against France, in the first round of the group stage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in Lille.
