Ukrainian wins NBA Finals with Boston Celtics in 2023/24 season
Father of Ukrainian defender Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk — Yuriy Mikhailyuk – believes that his son lacks trust in NBAwhich is why he cannot fully reveal himself.
“You need to be in the right place at the right time. There are players who have great skills, but somewhere the coach didn’t believe in you. We had it like this: Maxim Mikhelson believed in Svyatoslav and kept him on the court even when there were failures. In the NBA, he still lacks trust.”
“But even the path he took is worth a lot. This is his personal merit and the merit of the people who surrounded him and helped him. First of all: coaches Alexander Molchan and Maxim Mikhelson, patrons Mikhail Brodsky and Sergey Odarich, coaches and employees of Cherkassky Mavpy and a number of others. We, the parents, also played a certain role in this.”
It was previously reported that Boston does not plan to extend the contract with Svyatoslav. The Ukrainian will leave the Celtics as a free agent.
Several Euroleague clubs were interested in Mykhailiuk. Real Madrid and Panathinaikos were preparing to start negotiations, and Olympiakos was also keeping an eye on the player.
Mykhailiuk played 49 games for the Celtics this season. In the playoff series, the Ukrainian averaged 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per eight games. Over the course of the season, the Ukrainian averaged 4.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists.
Together with Boston, the Ukrainian guard became the NBA champion for the first time in his career. Mykhailiuk became the second Ukrainian after Stanislav Medvedenko with the championship title in the most prestigious basketball club tournament in the world.
