Attorney Yarmush suggested the Greiner trade could happen in a month or two.

Maria Yarmush, a specialist in civil and international law, as well as contentious jurisdictions and child custody, believes that the exchange of an American basketball player Britney Griner charged in Russia in a drug trafficking case, can take place in one or two months.

On Thursday, the Khimki City Court sentenced Greiner to 9 years in prison and a fine of 1 million rubles. Greiner was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to smuggle hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport. Following the examination of the criminal case, the prosecution requested 9.5 years in prison against her.

– I can assume that the exchange of Greiner will take place in the near future. I don’t know all the details, but I think within a month or two the United States will try to meet all the requirements and sort out all the paperwork they can. After that, Griner and Paul Whelan will return to their homeland, and Russians imprisoned in the United States will follow in the opposite direction,” Yarmush told RT.

Greiner has been playing for UMMC Yekaterinburg since 2015, she won the Olympics twice as part of the USA team (2016, 2020).

Earlier, US media reported, citing a source in US President Joe Biden’s administration, that he supported plans to swap Russian Viktor Bout, who is serving a prison sentence in the US, for American citizens Greiner and Paul Whelan, who was sentenced in Russia to 16 years in prison for espionage.
