Germany beat Greece, 76-63, after overcoming a 10-point deficit the Hellenic team had in the first quarter. The Mansschaft qualified for the first time in their history to the semifinals of an Olympic Games, a close match that turned into Teutonic superiority from one stage to the next. The scorer was Franz Wagner for the winners and Giannis Antetokounmpo for the Greeks
The Germans went for the medal
The German team started on the scoreboard, with a Greece that seemed to be sweeping the field. But from the second quarter it started to fall and the Germans recovered thanks to Franz Wagner, their scorer. The Orlando Magic forward had 18 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
With his counterpart, Giannis Antetokounmpo kept the Greeks from catching up with the world champions. The Hellenic figure was once again dispatched with 22 points, three assists, two rebounds and a block. But it was not enough against a Germany that would not give a possible first qualification to the semi-finals as if nothing had happened.
Dennis Schröder once again led the Mansschaft with 13 points, eight assists and one steal. A victory that they achieved starting in the third quarter and where they began to stretch their difference with the Hellenes who seemed to be running out of energy. At the end of the match, you can see a Greek team completely defeated and unable to gain a foothold. Germany took the promotion to the next stage with 13 units.
What’s next for Germany?
The Germans will have to wait for the result of Canada – France, which will decide who Gordie Herbert’s team will face. Those from the Maple Leaf who are on the podium in the 2023 FIBAWorld Cup or the locals, are the owners of this Olympic Games and will be hard to beat if they can enter their two giants.
