France hit the ground running and beat Germany

France defeated Germany 73-69 in a tight match where both knew how to dominate the scoreboard. The Gauls managed to win the second half, after a tie at halftime, and earned their place in the Olympic final. They will now face the winner of United States – Serbia for the gold medal in the final match of the competition.

The final is for the local and not for the world champion

The German team started on top as they controlled the match and dominated the pace of the game. Dennis Schröder was the best of the Teutons with 18 points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal. For his part, Moritz Wagner, who until the semifinals was the key to his team, had a weak moment in scoring today and scored only 10 points.

France bounced back in the second quarter as they managed to reverse the lead and hold the world champions to under 10 converted points in the period. There, the locals managed to tie the match at 35 points and went into the break with the energy to win it.

The Gauls were better throughout the second half and managed to beat the Teutons on the scoreboard. The former Real Madrid appeared, Guerschon Yabusele, who was the most efficient of the local team with 17 points converted, in addition, he contributed with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Isaiah Cordinier was one of France’s standouts and added to his team-high 16 points, seven boards, two rebounds and two assists on goals.

France won the match by managing to fend off a German comeback attempt with scoring and good defense that further unnerved the reigning world champions. Now they will compete on Saturday, August 10 for the gold medal at home and against the winner of the United States – Serbia.
