And in the semifinals, the French team was able to take revenge on the Germans in a super-intense match – 73:69.
The American team, consisting of NBA stars, reached the semifinals of the tournament in one fell swoop. In the group stage, the Americans scored more than 100 points on their opponents in all matches. So, the Stars and Stripes won against the Serbs with a difference of 26 points, against South Sudan – plus 17 and against Puerto Rico – plus 21. In the quarterfinals, the American team beat Brazil, making the difference plus 35 points. But in the semifinals, the Serbs were able to give a real fight to the Americans. Apparently, there was an underestimation on the part of Steve Kerr’s team, because in the group they beat the Serbs with a decent point difference. But in the semifinal match, Svetislav Pesic’s team simply bombarded the opponent by three points and led by 15 points at the end of the third quarter. Only in the last 10 minutes the Americans woke up, prevented the Serbs from doing anything under the basket and won the quarter 32:15, and with it the match – 95:91.
It is interesting to note that the same composition of finalists was present at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo. Then the French lost to the American team by only 5 points (82:87). But in the group of the same tournament, the Tricolores completely defeated the Americans – 83:76. It is worth noting that since 2012, the French and American national teams have regularly played against each other at the Olympics. The result is 3 American victories in 4 matches.
