“I didn’t think I would end up at the Paris Olympics after everything I had to go through. This gold medal will hold a special place among the other two that I was lucky enough to win,” Greiner was quoted as saying by Reuters.
In February 2022, while crossing the border of the Russian Federation, narcotic substances were found in Brittney Greiner’s luggage, which are not prohibited in many US states, but are completely banned in Russia. As a result, the court sentenced her to nine years in prison. On December 8, 2022, she was exchanged for Russian businessman Viktor But, convicted in the United States for illegal arms trafficking.
