Kirilenko spoke about the tasks after his re-election as RFB chairman

Andrei Kirilenko spoke about his goals as president of the Russian Basketball Federation.

On Friday, Kirilenko, 43, was re-elected as RFB chairman for a new four-year term.

— Over the years of my work, an “alchemy” has formed in our team, like in a real basketball team. Although we faced many challenges, we overcame them and became even stronger. The first four years, we had to focus on the structure of the federation, to build its foundations. This included developing basic projects, finding sponsors and selecting staff. Then, in the next season, we worked on the basketball infrastructure in the country. Despite several crises related to the coronavirus and political pressure, we managed to launch many projects for the construction of basketball infrastructure and the development of basketball in the regions. A sports base for the national team is being built, which will become the home of the players; basketball centers are opening in our country – all this keeps us on our toes and allows us to look to the future with optimism.

In the next four years, I plan to focus on the youth basketball program and mini-basketball for children aged 13 and under, as well as on training children’s coaches – they are the future of our basketball, which will certainly return to the international arena. In addition, thanks to our work on infrastructure – the construction of indoor courts and street basketball centers – there is a place to bring children. Programs dedicated to the development of children’s basketball and coaching support are already in development. I thank the members of the RFB reporting and election conference for their trust!
